Strengthening Health Systems from the Inside Out

The Fleming Fund is a UK International Development programme, established in 2015, in response to the UK AMR Review and the WHO Global Action Plan on AMR, which called for funding to improve AMR surveillance, public awareness and responsible drug use. This was in partnership with more than 30 countries across Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Caribbean to tackle antimicrobial resistance. The Fund is managed by the Department of Health and Social Care and invests in strengthening surveillance systems through a portfolio of country and regional grants, global projects and fellowship schemes.

The Fleming Fund has supported a wide range of projects that have generated practical tools, guidance, training materials, datasets, and learning resources to strengthen antimicrobial resistance surveillance and laboratory capacity.

❝Without optimal surveillance systems in place, we are working in the dark. The Fleming Fund puts a spotlight on the data needed to make an impact on AMR across Africa and Asia.❞

Aims

The Fleming Fund Knowledge Hub provides a dedicated home for these resources on The Global Health Network online platform and brings together outputs from the Fleming Fund activities and projects. Resources are organised to support researchers, laboratory teams, surveillance professionals, public health practitioners, policymakers, and others working to address AMR.

The Knowledge Hub aims to support:

  • stronger AMR surveillance
  • laboratory capacity strengthening
  • research uptake
  • knowledge exchange

The hub will also recognise the work and impact of the Fleming Fund projects and teams, ensuring their contributions continue to inform and strengthen AMR research and practice beyond the completion of the Fleming Fund projects. Through this hub, the Fleming Fund will continue to support AMR research, surveillance, and laboratory systems worldwide.
